Imagining The Future Of Medicine Talks Now Available To Watch Online

Imagining the Future of Medicine was a unique event held at the Royal Albert Hall on April 21st, bringing together a host of speakers from a range of backgrounds to celebrate the future of health and medicine.

The event was streamed live online by Be Inspired Films, attracting a 2,000-strong online audience across 60 countries plus 6,500 viewers of the raw footage in subsequent days. The coverage has now been edited by Be Inspired Films into short, informative videos that are available to watch online for free.

“As part of its mission to promote access to the arts and sciences, the Royal Albert Hall worked alongside Be Inspired Films for its historic event, Imagining the Future of Medicine, which celebrated the future of medicine and healthcare – alongside artistic performances – and was hosted by Irish comedian and presenter Dara Ó Briain,” explains Ed Cobbold, Education Co-ordinator – Arts and Science at the Royal Albert Hall.

The event followed the sold-out success of TEDxAlbertopolis, an independently organised TED event at the Royal Albert Hall in September 2013. Also streamed internationally by Be Inspired Films, the live coverage attracted viewers as far afield as Canada, Chile and China.

“The Hall’s charitable purpose has always been to promote the arts and the sciences, and engage future generations; both these events demonstrated a real interest in and passion for exploring these topics amongst our public,” says Ed Cobbold.

“The live streaming facility and post-event edited online videos were key to sharing enriching discussions such as ‘How to be Human in a Digital World’ and ‘How to Have a Good Death’ with a global audience that would otherwise not necessarily get the opportunity to access the Hall’s diverse programme.

“The quality of Be Inspired Films’s services met the high standards required by the Royal Albert Hall, and its team were highly professional and experienced.”

In addition to host Dara Ó Briain, Imagining the Future of Medicine’s speakers included Jay Walker, chairman and curator, TEDMED; Alison Balsom, 2013 Gramophone Artist of the Year; Ben Goldacre, MD, bestselling author and broadcaster; Tali Sharot, neuroscientist; Sarah-Jayne Blakemore, neuroscientist; Francis Wells, cardiothoracic surgeon; Ali Parsa, healthcare entrepreneur; Mark Wilson, neurosurgeon and prehospital care specialist; Amil El-Imad, computer scientist and entrepreneur; Katherine Sleeman, palliative medicine registrar and academic; and Leo Cheng, consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The event also included performances from the Kaos Signing Choir for Deaf and Hearing Childre, the Islington Community Theatre and Alison Balsom.
