THE STORY OF THE MONK TURNED MOVIEMAKER
Hi, I’m Ravinol Chambers.
I’m the monk turned moviemaker.
I grew up in Dublin in an entrepreneurial family and had ideas to become a stockbroker as a teenager.
In a twist of events, I ended up spending most of my twenties living as a monk dedicated to a life of service, living in Africa, India, the U.K. and Ireland.
It wasn’t a huge surprise to those who knew me well as I had been asking the big questions in life since I was about 9 years old.
And they never went away.
A new chapter began at 29 when I realised I wasn’t cut out to be a lifelong monk so I started looking for work.
I had no money or assets so was starting from scratch.
I longed to synthesise my desire to do well in business with my desire to make a meaningful and purposeful contribution to society.
Often these two desires seemed at odds with each other.
In 2008, after many years of yo-yoing between business and impact, believing what the world told me, that they were two separate and opposite things, I founded Be Inspired Films.
I wanted to help purpose-driven organisations magnify their positive social impact through great storytelling using film, animation, documentaries, podcasts and events.
After a bumpy start, thankfully it started to do well.
After many disappointing close calls at awards ceremonies, we began to win awards and continue to win year after year.
In 2015 we became one of the UK’s first certified B Corporations and the first UK video production company to become a B Corp.
I was so excited to find a global community of great companies committed to acting as a force for good in the world.
More than anything I was able to harmonise the two parts of myself through my work whilst helping organisations do the same through strategic business thinking and a passion for making a positive difference in society.
We have just passed our 15th year in business and are still as committed to telling stories of impact for change-makers around the world, as we were when we started.
Long may it continue.
